Robert S. Mason
|
"ROBERT S. MASON, born
October 17,1920 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Married
April 3, 1943 to Dorothy Curry. Soloed the
P-47 Dec. 10, 1944 out of Bradley Field,
Connecticut.

Lou A. Mastriani
|
Mastriani's first assignment overseas was
ferrying newly assembled P-40's from the
Gold Coast in Africa to Cairo, Egypt. Four
such trips were made. His first tactical assignment began in February 1943, and was with
the 57th Fighter Group, 64th Squadron. At
that time, the 57th was assigned to the
British 8th Army supporting General Montgomery's push west across North Africa.

Ted Matula
|
After downing
enemy planes, he was shot down, behind
enemy lines. He was strafed while in parachute, and, semi-conscious, was taken to
safety by partisans, who then had to leave
him alone........

Warren R. Mauck
|
Entered Aviation Cadet training, graduating
class of 43-C. Warren flew in five Italian
Campaigns with the 86th Fighter Group,
527th Squadron. Was awarded the Air Medal
and Presidential Unit Citation. He flew over
40 combat missions before returning to Casablanca, North Africa as a Test Pilot

Howard P. Maupin
|
.....he was sent
over to England to fly escort for the army
bombers. He was shot down over Belgium
February 26, 1943. He spent 5 1/2 months
with the Belgium Underground Forces.

Charles T. McBath
|
Some years ago I flew with a former member, now deceased, of Zemke's "Wolfpack", 56th Fighter Group. He was Charles T. McBath, the smoothest pilot I ever flew with.

Thomas K. McCaffrey
|
Went on to
Baton Rouge, La. for indoctrination in the
P-47, from there to Bruning, Neb. for R.T.U.
returning to Baton Rouge for overseas
replacement in Aug. 1944. After some more
training in England, was assigned to the
412th Ftr. Sqdn. 373rd Grp. in France
where he flew 57 missions doing close support, dive bombing, strafing trains, airfields,
convoys, and troop movements. Credited
with 2 E/A in air. Also had the honor of
flying with the 1st American Group to fly
from German soil.

Hugh Earl McCall
|
His Military Career began on July 9,
1940 enlisting in the Army Air Corps at
Kelly Field, Texas as a radio repairman, Pvt.
With boyhood dreams of flying and a high
school education he began primary training
at Hancock's College of Aeronautics as an
aviation student, Santa Maria, California.
Completed basic training at Leemore Field,
California and graduated from advanced flying school at Luke Field, Arizona, class of
42-H as a S/Sgt. pilot.

John C. McClure
|
Arriving in England in
1943, he flew the first P-47 combat mission,
led by Chesley Peterson, with Zemke, Schilling and O'Neill. Later, parachuting from a
combat-damaged Jug into the North Sea, he
was incarcerated in Amsterdam Prison and
eventually reached Stalag Luft III at Sagan,
Germany as a P.O.W.

Alvin McCorkle
|
Dec. 26, 1944 on my 26th mission 8 of us
were fire bombing near Stuttgart, Germany.
The first 4 of us had bombed and were back at
12 thousand feet covering our buddies when
12 Me 109s jumped us. On the first pass they
shot down the element leader and his wing
man. One bailed out and the other spun out
on fire.
