I’m searching for anyone who would have known my father, Robert A. Rausch of the 319th Fighter Squadron, 325th Fighter Group, USAAF. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and was shot down, KIA, on June 15, 1944 over Marseilles, France. He was in a P51 Mustang. I was born one month prior to his death. If anyone can offer any information or the name of someone I can contact, please advise. Some names that were friends were J. H. Basham, C. E. Fisk, John H. Plank. I believe that Mr. Plank was the one who saw his plane go down, which I believe was Aircraft number 72. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Always considered the P-47 to be my favorite WWII fighter aircraft. Over the years I’ve talked to a number of pilots that flew this great machine and not once did anyone utter a negative comment. great site...long live the ’Jug’ pilots and their beloved airplane.

My brother, Thomas Randall Rampy, Jr., now deceased, flew P-47s from Ie Shima during the last three months of the war. He was with the 463d F.S. and 507th F.G. I’d be glad to hear from anyone who shared that experience.

I was not a P47 pilot, but a static chaser/gunner on a B-24 in the 373 BS of the 308BG and was in the 14th AF in China. I hold great admiration for the P-47 and the men that flew them.

My dad was an engine mechanic for the p-47 on long island n.y He has a lot of great storys to tell about repairing them. Did anyone know that there was only one made with two seats in it? that’s right, the gas tank behind the pilot was removed to make room. He wasn’t a pilot but did take one out for a spin one day when nobody was there to notice.

Hello heroes! Thanks for finally getting on the web. My dad flew with the 371st FG, 404th Squadron and was KIA over Cherbourg on June 24, 1944. I was born two months later. Perhaps some of you remember me from the Seattle and Colorado Springs reunions. It was an honor to be with you. This past June I made my third visit to Normandy and the place where my dad gave his life. The citizens of Octeville, where he crashed, built a park on the site and named it ’Square Strahlendorf’ in honor of their liberator, the only Allied flier to go down within the town boundaries during the war. On Flag Day this year I was especially proud to represent my dad and the other comrades you lost at a memorial service at our Normandy Cemetery overlooking Bloody Omaha Beach. I am a life member of the P-47 THUNDERBOLT PILOTS ASSOCIATION and am very new on the internet. How pleasing it is to find this website. Hope to visit often. I flew 90 missions over Europe in the ’JUG’ and was in the 371st Fighter Group, 404th Squadron. Would love to hear from some of my old comrade-in-arms. With my son’s prompting, I recently took a renewed interest in WWII events and have even published a book containing mission summaries I kept in 1944/45. Hang in there!!!

Hi all. My uncle, Major Edward P. Fitzgerald was the operations officer for the 412Ftr.Sq. 373 Ftr.Gp. he was lost Sept.20 1944 if anybody knew him or might have some pictures or info about him, I sure would like to hear from you. For anyone who is interested if you want to send someone copies of those rare and irreplaceable photos, try your local Kinko’s or Office Depot, and have a COLOR Zerox copy made of your Black and White photo, sometimes they seem to come out better than the original. My father, Wilbur John Phillips, Jr. served as a pilot with the 10th FS, 50th FG, 9th AF from May 1944-Nov. 1944. I am trying to locate anyone with info about my dad, 1st Lt. David T.Zimms, who flew P47’s and P51’s over Germany and Eng land during WWII. He named his planes Stinky and Stinky 2 He died when I was 15 in 1966 and I have missed out on asking all those questions about his time in the war. If you know about him or know where I can begin to search for more infor- mation please contact me. He was out of New York , spring- field Gardens. I have a picture of him near his plane Stinky, with his Crew Chief Sgt. Snyder. Mom says he had to bail out twice, once over land, once over Sea.
