I am not sure how to find more info and this is all I have about my grandfather. He was T. Sargent James T. Hammett 18109779 348th bomber squad 99th bomber 16th Division. On January 28, 1944 a letter was postmarked from New York, New York A.P.O.520 co. mrst new york, new york I know he was bombing over Sicily (some railroad tracks) other info: 1030AP.AP.F bofe anit fqda9g.aafrf #3 Santa Monica, Calif in April 25th, 1944. I would love to hear from anyone that could give me any info no matter how much just something. I only knew him until I was about 5 yrs old. He did of cancer in 1974 I believe. My mom would love to know more as all of her old records have been destroyed. Thank You, GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU GREAT AND COURAGEOUS PEOPLE.

I am trying to find anyone that that flew with, or knew my Uncle, Gen. Willard W. Millikan. He was with the 4th Fighter Group, 334th Squadron in WWII, and later went on to command the 113th TFW. Maj. Gen. Millikan passed away in 1978 of a heart attack and was the assistant to the Secretary of Defense at the time of his death.
I am trying to obtain, articles, etc., and particularly PHOTOS, so that I can put a scrapbook together for my mom. She had one at one time, but it was destroyed and I would like to try and make another one for her by Christmas this year (2001).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My brother, 1st Lt. Donald E. Kraman, flew a P-47D-16
Razorback, C4-I,in the 388th Fighter Squadron, 365th Fighter
Group from Beaulieu Airdrome near Portsmouth, England
beginning early in 1944. He flew about 85 missions -- D-Day,
across France and into Germany. His last mission was on
February 8, 1944, when his squadron was flying out of an
airfield near Florennes, Belgium. His plane, C4-I had been
flown first by 1st Lt. Philip S. Isis of Washington, DC,
who was transfered to HQ and then was killed in action
September 27, 1944. My brother didn''t know the name of the
new pilot who inherited C4-I, and he learned later that he
did not survive his first mission. I am trying to find out
about this pilot and what happened to him. If you have any
information or would like information about this, please
contact me at . My brother, Don, is a
retired school teacher living in Corcoran, CA. He is
wheelchair bound now, but we got him over to Duxford,
England last year for the 60th Anniversary of the Battle
of Britain, where a P-47D-22 was flown, with a B-17 and a
P-51, in the American part of the show

I''m trying to locate Melvin Pownall who flew jugs in the AFReserve in Pennsylvania after WWII. We graduated in Class 44G and I lost contact with him. I believe he lived in Coatesville, Pa. before and after WWII.

I just want to thank all who have participated in this site so that we can never forget what our P47 pilots sacrificed and also having the ability to find out more information of our loved ones were were killed. My brother, Pitt Jr. was killed Nov. 28. 1944 over Germany. God Bless them all!.

MY GOOD FRIEND JACK RHODES WHO LIVES NOW IN TIGNALL, GEORGIA, WAS A P-47 PILOT OVER GERMANY WHEN HE WAS SHOT DOWN AND GOT CAUGHT IN A TREE AFTER BAIL OUT, WAS CAPTURED AND REMAINED A PRISONER OF WAR UNTIL THE END OF THE WAR.

Last month we buried our uncle, and your fellow P-47 pilot, Robert L. Daly. Uncle Bob served in the United States Army Air Corp. as a fighter pilot in WW II, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Robert received the Air Medal, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. Uncle Bob rarely spoke of his war experiences, although on one occasion, some fifty years afterwards, he told of being shot down over France and his relationship with the French family (French underground)that helped him to the Swiss boarder. After the burial, we found a picture of another pilot, with the note, 313th Fighter Squadron, 50th Fighter Group. I presume this was his unit as well. Should any of you have knowledge of this fighter group and/or Robert L. Daly from Brooklyn NY, please drop me a line. Best wishes to all.

I WAS IN THE 69TH DIV ON APRIL 16 1945 AT TREBSEN GERMANY CROSSING ON A FOOT BRIDGE OVER THE MULDE RIVER,AS WE RACED ACROSS THE BRIDGE WE WERE STRAFFED BY P47'S AS THEY THOUGHT WE WERE THE ENEMY MY BUDDY AND I WERE HIT AND SEVERAL OTHERS. DOES ANYONE RECALL THIS OCCASION, IT WAS NEAR LIEPZIG. OUR ORDERS WERE NOT TO CROSS THE RIVER BUT THEN THAT ALL CHANGED WHEN THEY REPORTED ENEMY TROOPS MOVING UP TO THE BRIDGE AND WE WERE TOLD TO CROSS THE RIVER AND DEFEND THE BRIDGE BUT THEY FORGOT TO NOTIFY THE AIR FORCE. HOPE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE.

Greetings, Heroes! Can anyone direct me to the goverment archive where I can find aerial photos taken during the Normandy Campaign? In particular, I am looking for any photo that might reveal my dad's crash site in the Cherbourg suburb Octeville. He went down on 24 June 1944 and we have visited the site several times. I understand the wreckage was not removed for a few weeks. We liberated Cherbourg on 26 June. There must be photos that were taken for recon purposes that might show the wreckage. Thanks, Harry, Jr.

Great Site and very interesting Guetsbook.
I look forward to hera from anybody, who served with 365th or 48th Fighter Group during the period of Feb.45 to April 45 and who remember speical raids or events during this time. I would like to hear about this, because this was the time when the above mentoined Groups were very active over my part of Germany and I am still collecting such things for my documentation.

hey all you WW11 Fans you should try some of the WW11 online flight sims they are very fun you can download the Lobby to at http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz and when you get it downloaded and installed ask someone where you can download the game im sure someone will help also there is a new WW11 Game coming out IL2 , should be great online WW11 Flight sim , there is 1 actual WW11 Vet flying in the sim i fly his callsign is MONROEGQ=353= cause he is in the 353rd virtual squad a 47 based vitrual squad his bird's name in WW11 was WillyTheWolf

Is there anyone out there that knows anything about a plane names Ida Red I and Ida Red II. I read in my brother's letter that he had gotten a new ship and he named it Ida Red II. I believe it was a P47. He was killed Nov. 18, 1944, Samuel Pittman Cole Jr. in a Thunderbolt but the names were different on the plane. I am in touch with several people from this site now and love it so much. I'm finding out a little more each day about my brother. He flew out of Belgium the day he was shot down in Germany in a town called Grevenbroich ( not sure of the spelling ) I am also looking for a Walter Graham who was the leader of the squadrom that day and saw his plane explode. i would like to know if he is still living. I have a letter he wrote to my mother.

My Grandfather, Capt. Robert E. Stuart was a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot. He flew in the ETO, 12th AF, 350th FG, 345th FS, Devil Hawk Squadron. Stationed in Pisa, Italy he flew 89 combat missions from Nov. 1944 throughout the duration of the war. I am now building an r/c P-47D T-Bolt to replicate that of his FS. Keep 'em flying!
