Hello, my Dad flew the bubble canopy and razorback versions of the Thunderbolt for the RAF in the Far East. When he visited me from UK I took him to Chino to see the razorback and to Santa Monica to see the bubble canopy..he always speaks fondly of the plane. Unfortunately he doesn't have a PC otherwise I'm sure he'd join. He has asked me to search for a Bradford Exchange commemorative Thunderbolt plate...I've had no luck on the 'net..does anyone know if such a plate exists? Regards Steve

I am collecting books about the P-47, the units that flew it and its pilots for placement in the archives collections of the P-47 Thunderbolt Pilots Association. They are to be placed in two Universities for future historians - Florida State University and the University of Akron. If you have books in your library that you are willing to contribute, please contact me at p47288@juno.com. Don't send books without contacting first - I only need two copies if each one. I can provide a list of those that I know about. Thanks, Staryl Austin, 410th Ftr Sq, 373rd Ftr Gp, 9thAF WW II.

Very sad to hear of the passing of the greatest Thunderbird Ace. That of course being Gabby Gabreski who died last Thursday Jan. 31, 2002 at the age of 83. I very much enjoyed his book. A big thanks to all of you "Jug" jocks and those who kept them flying.

My father in law was a P-47 pilot in WWII. I never really knew him as he died before my wife and I married. I'm pleased to find your organization and hope I can learn more about my father in law through it. I'm proud to be in some small way to be connected to the heroes of his era

Sending this message in memory of my next door neighbor, John A.C. Cole of Topsfield, Ma., formerly of Norwalk, cT. who passed away at the age of 80 on 19 Jan 2002. John flew 164+ combat hours in his P47 during WWII. Any memories of him from his friends and colleagues would be appreciated by his wife and family and may be forwarded to me.

My father(Lloyd Bly)was a cook in the 404th fighter bomber group during WWII. He served in England, France, Belgium, and finally Germany. He just celebrated his 87th birthday. He loves to tell me about the men he served with during the war especially a Captain White. He loves to talk about the thunderbolt pilots that he cooked for. He attended some squadron reunions for some years but was to ill to travel this past year. He just says Hello to all and I was curious if the 404th has a web site that can be logged into to send messages. If so please send me an email and I will pass on to my Dad.

Hope you are all enjoying the site and its contents! Any messages related to "Looking For" someone or a P-47 Unit are being moved to the Message Board area of the site. This will increase the chances of a reply, as the requests for information posted in the guestbook tend to get lost. Please use the guestbook for posting general greetings to the P-47 community and use the message boards for inquiries. Thank you for visiting and come back often!

The Tuskegee Airmen, 332nd Fighter Group, flew the jug briefly in May/June 1944. Our men are credited with being the only ones to sink a destroyer with only machine gun fire! The jugs 8 50s did the job right! I have never had the thrill of flying the jug but I did my Aeronautical Engineering Technology degree project on her at the College of Aeronautics. General Jimmy Doolittle, who was an honorary member of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., and our former 15th Air Force commander, also loved the jug, and was one of the trustees at the College of Aeronautics in Queens, New York. Michael A. Joseph, II Historian Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. NY/NJ/CT My 1996 Supercharged Riviera "Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Staff Car" license plate reads is "332FGP47".
