Hugh C. Curran (msg id: 2303)
Trying to figure out why some of my Dad's documents say 358th Fighter Group and others say 523rd Squadron, 27 Fighter Group. Could he have been in both? He flew in Europe, first from England, later from France, at some point he was in Germany too. Would love to hear from anyone who knew of him too.

Calling all P-47 Razorback Pilots (msg id: 2301)
Hello all who served.
I am a giant scale builder of radio controlled WWI and WWII aircraft and am about to begin a P-47 Razorback project with an 84" wingspan. I would like to finish it to match the plane of a pilot that is still with us and pay tribute to his sacrifices.
If you know anyone fitting that description, please let me know and send any available pictures so that I can replicate the plane as exact as possible.
Thanks,
Gary

Searching for P-47 pilot (msg id: 2294)
A good friend of mine is in search of a P-47 pilot that flew over Germany during WW 2. He was a tank gunner in Patton's 3rd army and said he would like to meet a pilot and personally thank him for protecting them during the war. If anyone knows of a pilot in the Carolinas, Georgia or Tennesee willing to meet please contact me. This is one of those bucket list things for my friend. Thanks for any help you can give.

Did you know 1st LT Melvin "Don" Putnam? (msg id: 2293)
Hi, all. I'm looking for any information anyone my have about my great uncle 1st LT Melvin Donald Putnam, who would have been known as Don. He was with the 8th Army Air Forces, VIII Fighter Command, 78th Fighter Group, 83rd Fighter Detachment, and was lost on January 5, 1944 when the bomber group he was escorting was attacked between Rennes and Chateaubriant, France.
According to my grandfather, Don was flying his 78th mission when he was lost. I'm told this was a remarkably high number of missions to have survived, though I'm having a lot of trouble digging up statistics on average life expectancy of a P-47 pilot in late 1943.
If anyone out there knew him, or can fill me in with any relevant information, I'd be grateful.
Thanks.

Any help welcome (msg id: 2287)
My father Rober Hertel flew a P47N with the 507FG. He was stationed in Iwo Jima. I don't know much more than that at this time. His 88th birthday is approaching and I would like to find information or memorabilia that would be pertinent to him. If anyone has suggestions as to how I can narrow my search they would be greatly appreciated. As he has aged his memory of WWII is clearer and the present gives him difficulty. Although he is still in great physical health and bowls regularly. Any old friends would be welcome to contact me too!

CONTACT! (msg id: 2282)
This is my third find!
I just got off the phone with another close friend of my uncle, 2nd Lt. Fredrick W.Nerney. Mr. "O" is 86 yrs old and in good health over all. He trained and Flew with my uncle in the 371st FG 406th Sqdr. He told me that they had been good friends and the loss of my uncle on March 19th 1945 was hard to take.
I hope to visit Mr. O some day soon and hear more about his memory. He sounds like a really fine man and has lead a good life.

ID for P-47 unit emblem (msg id: 2281)
I ahve seen a photo of several pilots wearing a patch, round with what appears to be either a Cat, Fox,standing upright holding what appears to be a bomb(aerial) under left arm and what looks to be a 50 Caliber machine gun on/over shoulder of his right side, the background appears to be a cloud base with sky.
Anyone who may recognize this Squadron/Group emblem please contact me , thanks you !!!!!!!!
