Well done job ; congratulations for this great website !!! I am a yong historian from Germany, who is working on a documentation (book) about the WW2 air raids and a/c losses for my district. I got to this page by ’Bob’ Williams. I would like to know, if any one could help me on with photos of the following a/c, pilots or if anybody remebers this missions : 10th March 1945, 36th FG, 53rd FSqdn 1st Lt. V.E. Bathurst crashed with 43-2960 after attacking a M/T near Dillenburg (Coordination G4132) 14th March 1945, 404th FG , 507th FSqdn 1st Lt Billy Lee BROWN & 2nd Lt Ben SIMON collieded in mid air during strafing the Siegen/Lippe airfield. Both were killed.

My father, who is 78 now, was an gunnery instructor and IP at Aloe Field in Victoria, Texas around 1944. He was a First. Lt. and flew the AT6 Texan , P-40 and P-47 at Aloe. He has no photos and remembers only a few names of fellow instructors and students. But has a really neat bunch of stories. Has a birthday soon and would really like to put him in contact with those guys back then. Does anyone recognize the name? Thanks, son Randy

I guess I rank in the Advocate category. Having grown up in the shadow of the P-47 and its pilots, I have always harbored a special and lasting love for the Jug. As a child I grew up near old Harding Field in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I hung around the flightline, watched them dogfight and chased crashes. Lately, I have published a 3-1/2-lb book, entitled HEROES OF HARDING FIELD, which focuses mainly on the training of P-47 pilots. Among the hundreds of vintage photos are the graduating classes of P-47 pilots. It was truly a labor of love. God bless America and P-47 pilots!

Very interesting web site. As a retired USAF fighter pilot I have always been interested in the ’Jug.’ Can someone point me to a book or documents that accurately record the combat record of the P-47 in WW II - especially as compared to the other great fighter of that day - the P-51? Both were great for different reasons, as I recall, but I would like to read an expert’s assessment of their respective attributes and combat performance. Thanks. Tom Goldman

I have an old B/W photo of a P-47D-10 s/n 42-75076. This plane was bought with the aid of students from the New Brunswick, NJ schools during WWll. I know, my family helped. On the side of the ship is written, ’Spirit of Roosevelt Junior High-School’ The helpful folks at Maxwell Field have researched that the plane was ent to ETO, Eighth AAF on 14 Sept 1943 arrived 17 Sept 1943. It was transferred to 9th AAF ETO on 13 Apr 1944. Does anyone know of any Squadron Associations, 8th or 9th AAF orgs where I can trace what Squadron this plane was assigned to. We have been noticing requests from the aging uppy generation regarding their relatives who served in the AF during WWII and earlier. I know something about the 36th Fighter Group, Ninth AF. The 36th at one time or another was comprised of the 22nd,23rd,32nd and the 53rd squadrons. Between Tom Glenn (see elsewhere), myself and others we may be able to answer your questions.
