I wanted to leave a short post to any/all of the members of the P47 Pilots Association referring them to another site, http://www.angelfire.com/ks/phxbrd/index.html. This site commemorates the fatal crash of an entire class of newly commissioned P47 pilots from Bruning Army Air Field in Nebraska. My uncle, 2nd Lt. Bernard W. O’Malley, was one of these pilots. I thought some of you may find it interesting.

FRENCH DOCUMENTARY COMPLETED - 371st FG / 404th Squadron The documentary about the last year of the war in Europe was completed late in 1999 and broadcast on French television on Dec. 15th. An English translation has been produced, and Jacques Besson, the creator, is attempting to raise interest in this country to have it broadcast to the American people. I have a copy and the effort put into this production is excellent. This is a true P-47 story, with all archival film footage. It shows not only the story of the 404th Squadron’s last months of the conflict in Europe, but of the true horror of war. If you know of a way to help Jacques raise interest here in America, please contact me via e-mail.

I’am working on a study about the air war over the south east of France in 1943/1944. I’m very interested in the misisions flown by P-47 groups over this area in spring and summer of 1944. I’m interested in contacting véterans who flew missions over this region ( 27th FG, 57th FG, 79th FG, 86th FG and 324th FG) or person interested in the same topic. I have some informations about and the crash sites in south of France. If there is any particular information I can provide please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your Help

Dear Sirs, I am an aeronautical local historian and I am doing an historical research about my home town and some others in neighborought. I am looking for informations and put in contact with members of 79th Fighter Group, 12nd Air Force. That Group of P-47D Thunderbol made many dive bomber missions against bridges of my home town. The target from AFHRA documents reported the names of Osoppo and Tarcento in Northern Italy near Udine during Febraury, March and April 1945. If anyone have some infos please send me an e-mail. Thank you Michele D’Aronco

My Dad, Earl ’Bud’ Krueger, crewed P47s with the 91st Fighter Sq. in North Africa and later in China. Dad is 85 now and I know that he would love to get back in contact with any squadron mates who may be out there. If you served in the 91st, or know someone who did, please e-mail me. Thanks.

Walter Schroder was great in helping me find eyewitnesses to my capture in Germany after bailing out over a small town. I recommend him without reservation. It is also very interesting.

My father, who is 78 now, was an gunnery instructor and IP at Aloe Field in Victoria, Texas around 1944. He was a First. Lt. and flew the AT6 Texan , P-40 and P-47 at Aloe. He has no photos and remembers only a few names of fellow instructors and students. But has a really neat bunch of stories. Has a birthday soon and would really like to put him in contact with those guys back then. Does anyone recognize the name? Thanks, son Randy

I guess I rank in the Advocate category. Having grown up in the shadow of the P-47 and its pilots, I have always harbored a special and lasting love for the Jug. As a child I grew up near old Harding Field in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I hung around the flightline, watched them dogfight and chased crashes. Lately, I have published a 3-1/2-lb book, entitled HEROES OF HARDING FIELD, which focuses mainly on the training of P-47 pilots. Among the hundreds of vintage photos are the graduating classes of P-47 pilots. It was truly a labor of love. God bless America and P-47 pilots!

Very interesting web site. As a retired USAF fighter pilot I have always been interested in the ’Jug.’ Can someone point me to a book or documents that accurately record the combat record of the P-47 in WW II - especially as compared to the other great fighter of that day - the P-51? Both were great for different reasons, as I recall, but I would like to read an expert’s assessment of their respective attributes and combat performance. Thanks. Tom Goldman

I have an old B/W photo of a P-47D-10 s/n 42-75076. This plane was bought with the aid of students from the New Brunswick, NJ schools during WWll. I know, my family helped. On the side of the ship is written, ’Spirit of Roosevelt Junior High-School’ The helpful folks at Maxwell Field have researched that the plane was ent to ETO, Eighth AAF on 14 Sept 1943 arrived 17 Sept 1943. It was transferred to 9th AAF ETO on 13 Apr 1944. Does anyone know of any Squadron Associations, 8th or 9th AAF orgs where I can trace what Squadron this plane was assigned to. Any help would be appreciated. Bob Kalinak

I wrote P-47PILOTS The FIGHTER-BOMBER BOYS tO fill in the gap in WWII history. The P-47, and the pilots that flew that powerful war machine played a very important part in defeating Germany and saving many of our ground troops from death. We have been noticing requests from the aging uppy generation regarding their relatives who served in the AF during WWII and earlier. I know something about the 36th Fighter Group, Ninth AF. The 36th at one time or another was comprised of the 22nd,23rd,32nd and the 53rd squadrons. Between Tom Glenn (see elsewhere), myself and others we may be able to answer your questions.
