A SAD PASSING - A good friend of Americans, and in particular the men who flew the skies of Normandy during WWII, has passed away. PATRICK DELAHAYE, approximately 36 years of age, died on Monday, Aug. 21, 2000 while building a house in Normandy. Patrick apparently suffered a massive heart attack. He has been a close friend, no brother, to me since locating my dad’s crash site in Octeville in 1993. He has assisted nurmerous families of Allied pilots in research to learn more about what happened to those who sacrificed their lives in the Normandy Campaign. I cannot believe this fine man is gone from us. He had planned to visit in our home for the first time in October. All of us have lost a very dear friend. God bless you Patrick, and keep your wife and children in His loving care. Harry

Nice site..!! My father was a Fighter Pilot with Zemkes Wolf Pack, in the 63rd FS. Before he died 10 yrs ago we used to talk regularly about his days flying in WWII. To all the Jug pilots out there... write some of this stuff down because otherwise it will be forgotten. Secondly, I’ve heard some other stories from family freinds, and I’m waiting to hear from some of the women who flew Jugs..!!! There were plenty of women who delivered aircraft all over and flew many P-47’s...

Greetings, I am the USAF representative to the web portal, http://military.com and lead the newsletter and discussion groups. My father, Robert Dow Jackson, entered the RCAF in 1941 in Ontario and received his wings. I am not sure but I believe he eventually flew P-47s but that may have been after RCAF. He is deceased (1967). I am attempting to find any records of his service while with the RCAF. He was eventually posted to Europe in WWII and later joined the Army Air Corps. I know this is a shot in the dark, but do you recommend any sources where I might find records of his service in the RCAF. His only note of this service is “AVLMER, Ont, Can – RCAF Plt Tng – Dec 41”. I have found some small remains of a fighter crashed very near to my town Cuneo. ’m sure it was P47D, the pilot died (KIA). The exact day of the loss wass August 2, 1944, the S.N. is 42-26374, 12th 57th Group. Is it possible to have some information and documentation about? Cordially Sergio

My father, Roland Fulton Newill, was, we believe, a ground crew sergeant in the 356th FG, 361st Fighter Squadron at Martelsham Heath. This is based on great help from Ben Jones at researchers@B24.net identifying the skeleton-water-skiing-on-50.-cal-machine-guns insignia on a photo showing portraits of dad and about 12 others with names and ranks but no unit ID other than the skeleton. Since we have other photos showing dad with 500 lb bombs, we were sure he had been at a bomber station, not a P-47 station. We will squeeze the family photo piles for other photos, and appreciate any information you might have about 356, 361, or Martelsham Heath.

I wanted to leave a short post to any/all of the members of the P47 Pilots Association referring them to another site, http://www.angelfire.com/ks/phxbrd/index.html. This site commemorates the fatal crash of an entire class of newly commissioned P47 pilots from Bruning Army Air Field in Nebraska. My uncle, 2nd Lt. Bernard W. O’Malley, was one of these pilots. I thought some of you may find it interesting.

FRENCH DOCUMENTARY COMPLETED - 371st FG / 404th Squadron The documentary about the last year of the war in Europe was completed late in 1999 and broadcast on French television on Dec. 15th. An English translation has been produced, and Jacques Besson, the creator, is attempting to raise interest in this country to have it broadcast to the American people. I have a copy and the effort put into this production is excellent. This is a true P-47 story, with all archival film footage. It shows not only the story of the 404th Squadron’s last months of the conflict in Europe, but of the true horror of war. If you know of a way to help Jacques raise interest here in America, please contact me via e-mail.

Dear Sirs, I am an aeronautical local historian and I am doing an historical research about my home town and some others in neighborought. I am looking for informations and put in contact with members of 79th Fighter Group, 12nd Air Force. That Group of P-47D Thunderbol made many dive bomber missions against bridges of my home town. The target from AFHRA documents reported the names of Osoppo and Tarcento in Northern Italy near Udine during Febraury, March and April 1945. If anyone have some infos please send me an e-mail.
