On May 13, 2001 at 10:00 PM EST The History Channel in the U.S. plans to air the film Thunderbolts, Conquest of the Reich. The footage in this film was shot from March 1- May 15, 1945 and was shot on color 16mm and 35mm Kodachrome film stock. The USAAF 4th Combat Camera Unit shot this film. The film was made on the orders of General Hap Arnold. The 365th and 362nd Fighter Groups appear mostly in the film but other groups also appear. The film covers the last 2 months of the war in Europe as seen by the Thunderbolt pilots. Four pilots who appeared in the original film were interviewed for this History Channel presentation to comment on the action taking place. The film is dedicated to all the Thunderbolt pilots who flew in Europe during the Second World War. All the footage in this film is presented in its original color form and has not been colorized. This film was not released by the USAAF after the war, now for the first time see the Thunderbolts in action over Germany in COLOR.

On april 29, 1944, flak and fighter damage forced us to ditch in the North Sea about 30 miles off Great Yarmouth. A P-47 pilot (there may have been two) flew with us until we hit the water and then radioed our position to Air/Sea Rescue. Since our generators were out, our radio was useless, so that pilot (or pilots) saved the lives of the seven of us who survived the ditching. I'd like very much to learn the name or names of the pilot(s), so if this association can help, I'd appreciate it very much.

Does anyone out there remember a, Lt. Lester
E. Barton, USAAF, was killed in, The Great Squadron Tragedy over France, Mar.18, 1945. He was out of training at Chanute AFB,ILL. in 1941. From Worthington, IN. Had a brother, Sgt.Chester Barton, out of training in,Columbia, S.Carolina, a Gunner shot down and killed over Italy, July 20, 1943. My Uncle, August Garcea, flew a P-47 with the 358 Fighter Group(365th Fighter Squadron). He was killed in November 1944 near Strasbourg. Does any one who flew with the 358 FG remember him?

I am in possession of a U.S. One Dollar Bill Silver Certificate
signed by at least 16 members of the Short Snorters. The back of
the bill is dated 11/10/1942. It also has printed the initials
H.W.E. Some names are legible, some are hard to read due to the age
of the bill. Do names like Pete Miller, John Stout Jr., or
Roger S. Fuller sound familiar? Please e-mail me if you know

My Uncle, Frank Wilton, worked on P40s and P47s during the war in the European theater. Is there a website for
33rd Fighter Gp, 60th Fighter Sq? I would appreciate any help. I have some pictures of the American Air Museum in Duxford. I was there in May 1996, prior to their finish and have a good picture of the P47 there. I would be glad to scan the photo and email it to you if you'd like.

His name was Loren E. Hintz.
He served in Italy, I believe with the 79th.
He was KIA in April 1944.
I breifly corresponded with a friend and fellow flyer he served with named Harry Petzinger. Has anybody ever heard of him?
