I would like to hear from anyone who knew Lt. Wesley Terrell Ballard, killed in 1943 while flying a P-39. He was in the 346th Fighter Squadron, 350th Fighter Group that later converted to P-47's.

I'm class of 44-D. flew P-47s in Italy and France. I'd like to know if anyone can tell me what happened to Henry P. Simmons of my class. He flew the 47 in Italy (not in my outfit, tho) Last night I met a WASP who used to date him, and would like to know if he made it ok, and where he is now. His serial no. was 072941. Thanks.

Last month we buried our uncle, and your fellow P-47 pilot, Robert L. Daly. Uncle Bob served in the United States Army Air Corp. as a fighter pilot in WW II, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Robert received the Air Medal, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. Uncle Bob rarely spoke of his war experiences, although on one occasion, some fifty years afterwards, he told of being shot down over France and his relationship with the French family (French underground)that helped him to the Swiss boarder. After the burial, we found a picture of another pilot, with the note, 313th Fighter Squadron, 50th Fighter Group. I presume this was his unit as well. Should any of you have knowledge of this fighter group and/or Robert L. Daly from Brooklyn NY, please drop me a line. Best wishes to all.

I WAS IN THE 69TH DIV ON APRIL 16 1945 AT TREBSEN GERMANY CROSSING ON A FOOT BRIDGE OVER THE MULDE RIVER,AS WE RACED ACROSS THE BRIDGE WE WERE STRAFFED BY P47'S AS THEY THOUGHT WE WERE THE ENEMY MY BUDDY AND I WERE HIT AND SEVERAL OTHERS. DOES ANYONE RECALL THIS OCCASION, IT WAS NEAR LIEPZIG. OUR ORDERS WERE NOT TO CROSS THE RIVER BUT THEN THAT ALL CHANGED WHEN THEY REPORTED ENEMY TROOPS MOVING UP TO THE BRIDGE AND WE WERE TOLD TO CROSS THE RIVER AND DEFEND THE BRIDGE BUT THEY FORGOT TO NOTIFY THE AIR FORCE. HOPE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE.

Greetings, Heroes! Can anyone direct me to the goverment archive where I can find aerial photos taken during the Normandy Campaign? In particular, I am looking for any photo that might reveal my dad's crash site in the Cherbourg suburb Octeville. He went down on 24 June 1944 and we have visited the site several times. I understand the wreckage was not removed for a few weeks. We liberated Cherbourg on 26 June. There must be photos that were taken for recon purposes that might show the wreckage. Thanks, Harry, Jr.

Is there anyone out there that knows anything about a plane names Ida Red I and Ida Red II. I read in my brother's letter that he had gotten a new ship and he named it Ida Red II. I believe it was a P47. He was killed Nov. 18, 1944, Samuel Pittman Cole Jr. in a Thunderbolt but the names were different on the plane. I am in touch with several people from this site now and love it so much. I'm finding out a little more each day about my brother. He flew out of Belgium the day he was shot down in Germany in a town called Grevenbroich ( not sure of the spelling ) I am also looking for a Walter Graham who was the leader of the squadrom that day and saw his plane explode. i would like to know if he is still living. I have a letter he wrote to my mother.

My Grandfather, Capt. Robert E. Stuart was a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot. He flew in the ETO, 12th AF, 350th FG, 345th FS, Devil Hawk Squadron. Stationed in Pisa, Italy he flew 89 combat missions from Nov. 1944 throughout the duration of the war. I am now building an r/c P-47D T-Bolt to replicate that of his FS. Keep 'em flying!

I am a Marine Chief Warrant Officer who is the son of a P47 Thunderbolt Pilot. My father (Izzy) flew with the 56 Fighter Group, 63rd Fighter Squadron in WWII, he has since passed away, I was just thinking of some of the great stories he used to tell about the plane so I decided to check this web site out. Thanks, this is a great site.

It's sad that someone person or persons doesn't have the pride our gumption to at least put their name on their entry. However this is a site that reflects the knowledge and searches for information that people ned for a closure in their live or to clear up a historical matter. Please who ever you are place your name in your entry or just quit playing around. THANK YOU

I am 30 years old and have always been interested in World WarII. Unfortunately our schools don't think this is an important enough part of history. I never spent more than a few days in any history class learning what our soldiers, pilots, and seamen really went through. I would be interested in hearing from any North Carolina natives who flew during the war. God bless you all. You are the last true American heroes.

My wife's uncle recently passed away, his name was Ike Killingsworth of Longview, Texas. She discovered he was a WWII fighter pilot who flew the Republic P-47. We would like to know more about him, if anyone knew him, or about him we would appreciate being directed to any information about his service during WWII. Jim Allen

Greetings I am attempting to locate anyone who may have flown withor have any information regarding my Uncle Rudolph Marko. Rudy as he was known, was a Hungarian kid from Cleveland Ohio, and flew a Republic P47D named JULIA during WWII. He was shot down and killed over either France or Belguim I believe in 1944. He was a 2nd Lt. and a wing Comander. His body was returned via the Red Cross, and he now rests in the veterans section of Calvary Cemetary in Cleveland Ohio. He may have spoken of his little brother Steve (my father, now deceased) who was serving with the Marines at the time.He won the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Oak Leaf Clusters prior to his death. He was last seen diving on some nazi tanks in a treeline, and was never seen again. This is all the information I have, and any help finding more would be greatly appreciated.PLEASE feel free to contact me by e-mail rmagyar21@yahoo.com, by telephone at (216)663-3985 or snail mail Bob Magyar, 14704 Brunswick Ave. Maple Heights Ohio, 44137. I never knew my Uncle, but when my Grandmother died in 1979 she called out to her beloved son, now they belong to the ages. I wish to honor my Uncle by assuring he will not be forgotten by the generations to come. SEMPER FI Bob Magyar
