The Tuskegee Airmen, 332nd Fighter Group, flew the jug briefly in May/June 1944. Our men are credited with being the only ones to sink a destroyer with only machine gun fire! The jugs 8 50s did the job right! I have never had the thrill of flying the jug but I did my Aeronautical Engineering Technology degree project on her at the College of Aeronautics. General Jimmy Doolittle, who was an honorary member of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., and our former 15th Air Force commander, also loved the jug, and was one of the trustees at the College of Aeronautics in Queens, New York. Michael A. Joseph, II Historian Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. NY/NJ/CT My 1996 Supercharged Riviera "Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Staff Car" license plate reads is "332FGP47".

Great site. One of the WWll members of the 366th Fighter Group Assoc. told me about it. As a P-47 unit in WWll, F-84, etc. in the inter-war years and F-4s in Vietnam we have some members who flew combat in 3 wars. The Jug pilots all say it is their favorite mount.

Actually I am Mel Crum, Glenn's baby brother, Glenn flew with you Jug pilots until he went into P51s, he has E-mail but has a heck of a time trying to use it, send this guy a message at the above address at the above address, I am trying to sell him on the advantages of using the internet, but he is very cranky and stubborn (can you believe it?)

Great idea for a site. P-47 pilots have a story to tell that is truly significant. I was in the 373rd Fitr Grp, 412 th Fitr Sq in Europe. Flew 88 missions supporting the ground troops. Recalled during Korea, I stayed in to participate in Korea, the Cold War in the Far East and Europe, SAC for 11 years including BUFFs in Vietnam during 1968-69.

Searching for anyone who was in the 356th at Groton Point, Conn. in early 1943. Need information about the mid-air collision over Long Island that killed Ed Woolery. A Lt. named Cosack was in the other plane and parachuted to saftey.

Since I have not reviewed the entire web site, it is too early to give a worthy comment. However, I do have to ask a favor of you. Please enter the web site for the Ninth Air Force Association(9AFA) and I will enter yours in ours. The URL for 9AFA is WWW. Ninthairforceassociation.org. I am a former Jug pilot of WW II for a while. Only 30.5 missions. Tat is when I met the French underground.

My Dad is Fred Christensen (56thFG/62FS) he was really happy to know about this new website. I told him how really wonderful it was and he hopes that if anyone would want to contact him, they can do so through me! His only regret is that he has no access to a computer himself.

I JUST DISCOVERED THIS SITE, AND WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON ONE OF THE EVENTS THAT I WAS INVOLVED IN, NOT IN THE AIR BUT ON THE AIR- FIELD WHEN APPROX. 12 ME 109'S PASSED DIRECTLY OVER MY HEAD, ROUGHLY 200-400 FEET ABOVE ME. NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY WERE THE ONLY ENEMY PLANES THAT I ENCOUNTERED EXCEPT FOR ONE DECOY WHILE ON AN ESCORT MISSION TO HAMBURGH. HE WAS ABOUT 1000 FEET AND WE WERE AT 24000 FEET.END OF STORY!!!

My father's name is John Coxe and he was a P47 piolet in the second world war. He has asked me to find out if there any members of his old air group still around. The group name was the 912 fighter control squadron , part of the 9th airforce. Based in England starting in 1942 then in France and Germany.

Bob Huddleston told me about this site. Delighted to see it and will be most happy to contribute a short bio on George Preddy who got his first three victories flying the Jug. He went on to become our top Mustang ace. Bob may be writng Preddy's bio, so I will wait until you get through the H's and the P's to see more about the format. Great job.

A great site, and cheering to see the effort to capture the great contributions P-47 pilots, crews and acft made to our military in WWII. Often wondered why USAF didn't make effort to employ P-47 in Korea. Were there truly too few left around at that time, or were there other reasons why?
